About Muir

John Muir Elementary School serves about 430 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Teachers work in teams to plan and provide instruction. Muir teachers are able to challenge students who are ready to move forward, and to provide additional assistance to those who may need more support.

Muir Elementary School offers a variety of educational opportunities and support programs for students. The core curriculum is provided to all children with emphasis on those skills needed for life-long learning. Our most important job is to provide the best possible education for our students.

  • We offer a balanced literacy program and encourage student growth in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • We utilize a balanced math model in order to provide independent practice opportunities after shared and guided instruction for all students. This model allows students to develop fundamental mathematical concepts that help students solve problems and become mathematically literate. We also offer an accelerated math program for qualifying students in third through sixth grade.
  • Each grade level team at Muir has a structured, 30-minute math and 30-minute literacy acceleration time built into their daily schedule. Acceleration time ensures that all students receive targeted instruction in their area of specific need.

In addition to the excellent educational environment, the following clubs and activities are also available at Muir throughout the school year: Puppetry, LEGO Robotics, Yoga, Muir Mindfulness, American Book Club, Mad Scientists and Mathematicians, Yearbook, Junior Hawks, 3/4 Battle of the Books, 5/6 Battle of the Books, Songwriting, GEMS, Rocketry, Pokémon, Oratorical Club, Club Unify, Dance, Talent Show, Kindergarten Helpers, Muir Mindfulness, Intermediate Game/Strategy Club, Young Athletes, Community Helpers, and Safety Patrols.
