Access Testing

Students who are identified as English Language Learners take the Access test to assess their English Language Proficiency.  Our hope is each year the students’ proficiency grows. We have started to test kindergarten and next week we will begin to test grades 1-6.

Kindergarten Registration
Do you have a child who will be starting kindergarten in August 2025? We are excited to share that kindergarten registration will begin on Jan. 22. We encourage you to visit our Welcome to Kindergarten website now, to familiarize yourself with the process and begin gathering needed documentation. Current District 54 families will complete the online application starting Jan. 22 through their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.  If you do not have your login, please contact [email protected]

We also ask for your help in spreading the word about kindergarten registration. If you know of a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2025, please encourage the family to save the date and check out the Welcome to Kindergarten website. The sooner students enroll, the sooner District 54 will know how many kindergarten teachers we need to best serve our kindergarten class of 2025-26.

Reminder – SD54 Speech Contest

District 54 is excited to announce its 13th annual Spanish Speech Contest on May 2, 2025.  Students in 3rd through 8th grade who are interested in participating should prepare a written speech, a video of themselves delivering the speech and submit both along with the application by March 7th. Finalists will be notified via Parent Square on April 11th.  For more information or to submit an application, visit the District 54 Spanish Speech Contest website.

Reminder – 2025 Winter Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey
District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the District 54 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey on Monday, January 6th. The window will close on Friday, January 24th.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.
